Despite his many accomplishments and recent accolades, R.O.Z attributes much of his success to his ability channel his life experiences into his passion for music. In August of ‘88, R.O.Z was born to Ghanaian immigrant parents, and lived in the east-end community housing complex of Parma Court for a large part of his life. Growing up in community housing, R.O.Z was no stranger to the influences of drugs and violence—however, R.O.Z took to both sports and music as creative outlets. Influenced by rap and hip-hop legend Jay Z, R.O.Z developed a love for the art of using lyrics and sound to tell stories. In his teens R.O.Z began creating music with his childhood friends Big Lean and Hush of OVO.
“Music has always been a part of my life… I remember waking up in the morning hearing my mother playing Daddy Lumba (A Ghanaian highlife legend). I also remember our family Michael Jackson dance parties where everyone just forgot about their issues during the party and felt the music… Those classic artists had a major influence on me and my music from really early on."
Since pursuing music full time, R.O.Z has shared the stage with some of hip-hop’s biggest performers. This growing list of acts include: J. Cole, French Montana, Big Sean, Tyga, Kid Ink, and hip-hop legend, Nas. R.O.Z has also been on a cross-Canada tour with Jadakiss, as well as on Fabolous and Pusha T’s “The Life is so Exciting Tour” in 2013.
In 2017 R.O.Z released his highly anticipated mixtape titled: When the Smoke Clears. The mixtape was so well received by his fanbase, that he took to the road and began touring the world.
Currently, R.O.Z is accompanying afrobeat superstar Davido on his 30 Billion World Tour as well as fellow Toronto native and OVO’s PARTYNEXTDOOR on his Infinity World Tour. Over 40 cities are on the tour schedule, and R.O.Z is ecstatic to share his music with fans all over the world through this platform.
R.O.Z has channeled all his international experience into an upcoming project titled Z International, due to be released in the spring/summer of 2018.
